DEL MONTE GROVE–LAGUNA GRANDE, Monterey — October 29, 2026. A single streetlight on a specific block of Casanova Avenue between Sequoia Avenue and Toyon Avenue remains an important local infrastructure item. Monterey’s January 2026 NCIP review identified project NCP2414, with a budget balance of $30,000, to install the light near the neighborhood’s residential streets.
Why property-owner signatures matter
The project description calls for signatures from property owners within 250 feet of the proposed streetlight to document support. The January committee packet specifically says the NCIP neighborhood representative provided signatures of support. That is a meaningful step in community participation, but it is not evidence the final pole location or equipment has been approved by every relevant agency.
A neighborhood-scale safety request
Unlike a corridor-wide construction program or a major intersection redesign, NCP2414 targets illumination on the 500 block of Casanova Avenue. Residents concerned about visibility after dark can use the exact location and project number when requesting updates. The city record does not provide a verified crime reduction, collision history or installation date, so none should be inferred from the request for better lighting.
Funding and installation are separate questions
The project appeared on a January 28, 2026 list of older funded but not-yet-started or inactive projects under consideration as Monterey addressed a budget deficit. The $30,000 was an available balance on that list, not a confirmed October construction expenditure. Any subsequent funding change or completion should be checked against later Council records. The proposal is geographically separate from Del Monte Grove’s newer English Avenue access proposal for the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail.
